I saw this movie 3 times on its opening weekend and it’s still one of my favorite movies of all time. I remain furious that it didn’t earn an Oscar for Best Cinematography, but I’ve come to feel like this movie will follow the footsteps of Blade Runner as a kind of movie way ahead of its time that doesn’t manage to win a single Academy Award.

i rode a bus with my arm in a sling to see this movie the day after my worst christmas ever. and i couldnt even put into words how fabulous i thought it was. i saw it one other time a few weeks later. and then bought it as soon as it came out on dvd. in my opinion they studio fucked up. they released it too late in the game and didn’t do enough marketing and campaigning. cuz that’s really what it comes down to these days with the oscars. and this is the best movie of 2006 no questions asked. it should have won cinematography for that one long-follow shot or whatever it’s called. and alfonso cuaron should have at least gotten a nom as director. cuz what he did was just so amazing. and clive owen. shit. he does more with just his face in one scene then a lot of actors do in their entire careers.
long story short, i fucking love this movie. and it and zodiac are, in my opinion, two of the most overlooked films of the decade, if not ever, when it comes to the academy.

i could not agree more. alfonso is one of my favorites, if not my favorite director, and the cinematography in this movie is like…whoa. i could go on about those long takes for hours. do you know how hard that is to do? we discussed it in my last film class and i still cannot understand for the life of me why it didn’t get the recognition it clearly deserves. i like this poster too, i had never seen it before.
